Recent Projects.
Enviro Management 2010, Badger Surveys and Exclusions. On a yearly basis we carry out badger surveys through sections of railway line to identify potential safety issues. At sites where badgers are found to pose a potential threat to the safety of the railway line the badgers are excluded under licence and the embankments are grouted and meshed to prevent the badgers from returning.

Temple Sowerby Bypass A66, Badger Exclusion. Badgers were identified within the line of the proposed Temple Sowerby Bypass. Two artificial badger setts were constructed, one on either side of the proposed bypass route prior to the natural badger setts being gated and excluded.
Corbridge Tunnel, Bat Survey. A survey of the redundant tunnel was carried out due to plans to infill the structure. Bats were identified roosting within the tunnel and therefore a monitoring program was put in place to assess the bat activity within the tunnel throughout the year prior to a full mitigation strategy being prepared to enable works to proceed.
Kirkby Thore, Great Crested Newt Surveys and Mitigation. Repairs were required along the SAC railway line in Cumbria to ensure the continued safety of the railway line. A population of great crested newts was identified within the ponds close to the site. Therefore a Natural England licence was obtained and mitigation work was carried out to ensure the newts remained unaffected by the works.
Tolson House, Crayfish Survey. Records of crayfish were identified in a small watercourse adjacent to a proposed residential development. A survey of the watercourse was carried out to confirm or deny the presence of crayfish within the watercourse prior to the work commencing.
Dalton Stream, Water Vole Survey. Prior to work commencing to improve and strengthen the banks of a small watercourse in the Doncaster area a water vole survey was commissioned. Water vole field signs including droppings, feeding stations and burrows were identified throughout the surveyed section of the watercourse.
St Thomas' Hospital, Bat Survey. Plans were put in to convert an old hospital on Scarborough sea front into a series of residential flats. Prior to the planning permission for the site being passed a bat survey of the building was required.
Bridge 75 at Werrington, Bat and Protected Fauna Survey. A bat and protected fauna survey was carried out of a bridge carrying the PMJ railway line over a small watercourse prior to relining works being carried out.
Glasgow Flood Defences, Otter and Kingfisher Survey. Following a number of flood problems along the White Cart River in Glasgow plans were drawn up for improvements to the flood defences along the river. Prior to the improvement work commencing an otter and kingfisher survey of the river was commissioned and subsequently an otter licence was applied for to cover the works.
Gas Works, Arthington, Protected Fauna Survey. A bat survey of the old gas works at Arthington was required prior to an application for planning permission being submitted to convert the building for residential use.
Netherthorpe School, Bat Survey and Licence Application. Essential re-roofing works were required at Netherthorpe School in Sheffield. A bat survey of the building was commissioned and bats were found to be roosting in the ridge of the building. Therefore a Natural England licence application was prepared and submitted.
