Ackton Pastures

Whitcher Wildlife Ltd has been involved in this site for over ten years. This site is a large phased housing development immediately adjacent to Carr Beck watercourse. Over the years works have included numerous water vole surveys and supervision of works to de-silt the watercourse and carrying out vegetation clearance along the banks to improve the habitat for water voles. Water voles were found present at the site up to 2011.

Post 2011, as part of the planning consent for the development the capacity of part of the watercourse also needed to be increased as flood mitigation for the development. In order to facilitate this some of the banks required re-grading and some sections required re-aligning. Additionally, an extra channel was excavated to create additional water vole habitat. Whitcher Wildlife Ltd contributed towards the designs of these and monitored the works throughout.
