Bucklesham Quarry

Whitcher Wildlife Ltd was commissioned to carry out an initial Extended Phase 1 Habitat survey of a proposed quarry extension in Suffolk. The survey identified the potential for several species to be present including bats, reptiles and birds. It was also identified that further assessments of the waterbodies and hedgerows were required at more appropriate times of year.

Surveys were completed throughout the 2017 season with the surveys showing a varied level of bat activity across the site, an abundance of birds including more notable species such as sand martins and skylarks. HEGS and Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) assessments were also completed.

On completion of the surveys a detailed Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) was prepared outlining the impacts caused by all stages of the proposed works and suitable mitigation to offset the impacts. The EcIA was submitted as part of the planning application for the site.
