Wakefield Road, Mapplewell

Whitcher Wildlife Ltd were commissioned to carry out a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) of the former William Freeman factory in Mapplewell.

The survey identified a pond on the site which is potential habitat for amphibians and large piles of rubble from the demolished factory buildings which provide potential habitat for reptiles.

Great crested newt and reptile surveys were carried out on the site and none of these species were found. All further surveys have now been carried out, an EcIA prepared and a full mitigation strategy prepared for the site.

The Lidl store is now under constructed on the southern end of the site and mitigation measures for various species are to be incorporated into the development for bats, birds and reptiles to enhance the ecological value of the site.
