Whitcher Wildlife Ltd carried out initial bat activity survey to establish whether there was a bat roost present in a number of buildings due for demolition to allow a residential development. A small Common Pipistrelle roost was found with access into the roost through a small gap in the front of the building.

Temporary mitigation for the loss of the roost was provided in the form of three summer bat boxes and one hibernation bat box erected on poles during the demolition works.

Permanent mitigation was provided in the form of four bat boxes erected on three of the new houses constructed on the new development. Once the permanent mitigation was in place the licenced ecologist removed the temporary roosts. During the removal bat droppings were found in one of the bat boxes showing the temporary mitigation had been successful.
